Cleaning Products and sanitizing distilling equipment is necessary to make a phenomenal end product. This includes cleaning and sanitizing the fermentation equipment as well as the alcohol still. Bacteria and residues from previous runs can play havoc in the quality of the product produced.

    IOStar is an iodine based no-rinse sanitizer. 1-2 minute contact time when used in the concentration of 1oz per 5 gallons. It will slightly stain vinyl tubing and some plastic parts over time but will not affect the functionality of the tubing at all.

    SaniClean is the low-foam version of Star San. With a contact time of 2-3 minutes it is not as fast as Star San, but works as well. You also have to use twice as much, 2 oz per 5 gallons, for the same effect. However if you are using a pump it is the right choice. SaniClean is also known as a flavor and odor removal, making it the perfect choice for acid rinsing your dispensing equipment. Made by the same company that makes Star San and PBW and packaged in the same easy to use container as the 32 oz Star San.

    Star San is an acid based sanitizer that is quick, odorless, tasteless and safe for most materials except softer metals. Use of 1 oz per 5 gallons of water and a contact time of 1 minute makes Star San very economical and convenient.

    As a high foamer, Star San’s foaming action insures coverage and contact time in larger vessels and better penetration into nooks and crannys. Any foam that is left over in your carboy or keg will not harm your beer or you, and is perfectly safe and non-toxic, nor will it impart any flavors or odors. If you plan on making some up for spray application it is best to use distilled or RO water to maximize the life of the unused portion (minerals in tap water reduce the shelf life of Star San once in solution).     3. Mix ½ oz (1 Tablespoon) BTF Iodophor into 5 gallons cool water
    4. Allow solution to contact surface for 2 minutes, then air dry.

In general, the coopers we are in contact with recommend 1/3 to 1/2 of a stick, per 60 gallon barrel.
