  • The FermWrap Flexible Hea..

    The FermWrap Flexible Hea..

    $26.99

Manufactured by Fermentap the FermWrap(TM) heater is used to gently heat fermentations. Use tape to adhere this flexible heating wrap directly to your fermenter. Depending on your configuration and insulation, you can increase the temperature of your ferment from 5-20 degrees Fahrenheit.

If using a carboy or bucket you can attach directly using tape (as seen in photo above.) We recommend electrical tape as it sticks and unsticks the easiest. Heating can be controlled by sticking either the entire wrap or a portion of the wrap to the fermenter. In an open environment we see a heating differential between carboy and ambient of 10-15 degrees. This differential can be increased by using our carboy bag to insulate the carboy. To decrease the temperature differential, stick only a portion of the heating wrap to the fermenter.

For great results, we recommend a temp controller and carboy thermowell for the ultimate in fermentation temperature control. For the most complete control, use the dual stage temp controller and carboy thermowell, as well as a refrigerator, to control both the high and low temps. You can tape the heater to the wall of the refrigerator as well. With 40 watts of heat spread over two square feet it provides gentle, even heating.

    Draws 40 watts. 115V.

Be aware of an imitation of this product, sometimes even being marketed as a FermWrap(tm), coming from China. The electrical connections are sealed with silicone paste instead of proper electrical connections. Be aware that these Chinese companies carry no product liability insurance. In protection of the Trademark, Fermentap will also find it necessary to pursue any company selling a replica product as an original FermWrap(tm) on their site.

  • The Temperature Tamer

    The Temperature Tamer

    $249.99

The Temperature Tamer hangs from the side of a bin or tank and has a built-in temperature controller that monitors the temperature and controls a solenoid valve, allowing coolant or heated water to enter a snake, plate or jacket to maintain your ideal temperature. Theoretically you could be maintaining the temperature of a red wine ferment at 77F in one tank while you cold stabilized a white wine at 30F in the next.

The built-in Ranco controller allows for heating or cooling, has a temperature range of -30 to 220F, and will maintain the temperature in a ferment or tank within one degree of your set point. The controller opens and closes the built in electronic solenoid valve to start or stop the flow of coolant.

The included thermal sensor can be placed into a thermowell mounted onto a tank or a floating thermowell used with a Macrobin. The unit comes equipped with 1/2″ barb outlets for the glycol system, however you can remove those and attach anything you’d like to the 1/2″ FPT behind them. We generally like to use Quick Disconnects in these systems, please contact us if you need assistance setting this up properly.

An example set-up for cooling macro bins: Using one of our glycol systems run an outgoing and incoming loop of 1/2″ line that is always recirculating cold glycol. Wherever you have a bin that needs cooling, tee your Temperature Tamer input into the line coming from your chiller, connect a hose from the Tamer’s outlet to the inlet side of your cooling plate, and tee a hose from the cooling plate’s outlet into the return line going back to the chiller.

Perfect for safely moving your brew from kettle to final fermentation place. Constructed of durable Neoprene fabric, these Carboy Parkas are the strongest and coolest we’ve seen. The Neoprene is good at maintaining a temp by not releasing too much of the heat created by fermentation. If it gets too hot, the Parka allows you to drop a few ice packs inside and drop a few degrees off that ferment temp. Also great for keeping your beer out of the light. Comes with sturdy canvas straps that Velcro together at the top for easy carrying. A very sturdy zipper on the side allows for easy application and removal.

  • CoolBot – Walk-In C..

    CoolBot – Walk-In C..

    $329.99

    CoolBot for Brewers
You can build an affordable walk-in cooler for your brewery by using a CoolBot and a standard air conditioning unit. Whether you?re fermenting, lagering, or just keeping your brews cold for drinking, the CoolBot can help you with your cooling needs. Our customers save money on upfront costs, monthly electricity bills and expensive technician visits compared to a traditional walk-in cooler. CoolBots are used by homebrewers, nanobreweries, microbreweries and craft breweries all around the country, as well as the bars, pubs and restaurants that pour their beers.

    Fermenting and Lagering
In addition to our Construction Guide and A/C Selection Guide, here are a few tips for how to best use a CoolBot in your brewing:

Fermenting: Many brewers ferment their beer at around 50?F ? no problem for a CoolBot.

Lagering: For brewers who needed to lager their beer at ~34?F, we have a few suggestions:

    1. Insulate all surfaces (ceiling, walls, floor) to at least an R value of 25. Rigid foam paneling is the best insulation material.
    2. Use plenty of caulk and spray foam to seal every gap, crack and seam to prevent air leakages.
    3. Install a well-sealed door gasket.
    4. Try to limit door opening to less than 4 times per hour.
    5. If you?re still having a hard time reaching 34?F consistently, add another A/C unit and CoolBot to increase your cooling power. This will also add some redundancy to the system in the event of an accident.

Fermenting and Lagering: Some of our brewing customers need the ability to switch between higher and lower temperatures (~35?F to ~60?F) for their brewing process, so they need to have larger A/C units to get down to these low temperatures. The issue is that once the cooler reaches the low temperature (~35?F), it becomes difficult to increase the temperature in the cooler to the high temperature (~60?F).

For these cases, we recommend a pass-through thermostat. You can plug the A/C through the pass through thermostat, so that as soon as the room hits the set temperature on the CoolBot, the power is shut off to the A/C. Leave the CoolBot plugged in as usual. If you opt for this set up, you must purchase an A/C that can automatically restart after a power failure (some automatically reset to 70F). We can help you with any issues on this ? just give us a call.

  • Johnson A421 Digital Temp..

    Johnson A421 Digital Temp..

    $84.99

The Johnson digital temperature controller is used to control the temperature of a refrigerator, or similar cooling or heating device. Enter your desired temperature, called set point, and how tightly you want your temperature maintained, called differential, and let the controller do the rest.

    Ranco Vrs. Johnson
This Johnson digital temperature controller is very similar to our popular Ranco brand controller (FE610) in application and appearance. The advantage of the Ranco is being able to switch between cooling and and heating from the digital interface, while with the Johnson you have to take the cover off and physically remove a jumper. The advantage of the Johnson is the very attractive price.

For technical aficionados the Johnson does have a feature called Anti-Short Cycle Delay. Cycling is the rapid turning off and on of an electrical device. Over time cycling can harm your appliance. The Johnson controller allows you to set a time interval, in minutes, that keeps the controller from turning on right after it shuts off no matter what the temperature reading is. This can be very useful when you are using a 1 degree of differential setting for tight control but want your compressor or power supply to have a minimum time period of rest before it turns back on. Temperature Range of -40 to 212F.
