It is quite amazing how simple nuts can add a unique taste and healing properties to ordinary vodka. You can use all types of nuts, be it walnuts or pine nuts. Homemade nut vodka is very simple to make. Just make sure that you use the suggested ratios and aging time. Now let’s go over the two best recipes for drinks, which when drunk in moderation can be not only for pleasure but also for immune boost and as a stomach diseases prevention measure. You can use moonshine (distillate) or watered down ethanol instead of store-bought vodka.
Walnut Vodka Recipe
Ingredients:
- In-shell walnuts – 1 kilo
- Vodka (moonshine or diluted 40% ethanol) – 1 liter
- Sugar (honey) – to taste
You’ll only need walnut partitions, which separate walnut halves (pictured below). Walnuts themselves can be used for other purposes, such as making a nut liqueur. Thus, you’ll be able to make two delicious. drinks.
Walnut partitions
Carefully crack the walnuts and put the partitions in a jar. Treat them with boiling water and thrown in a colander. After that, put the partitions in a glass bottle or jar and top off with vodka. Seal the container and infuse in a dark place at 20-25°C for 3-4 days. Shake the container once a day.
Strain the walnut infused vodka through a few layers of cheesecloth, add sugar or honey to taste, and stir till sweetener is fully dissolved. Seal the vessel and put it in a fridge—your homemade nut vodka is ready. The color intensity depends on the infusion time and amount of walnut partitions. Adhering to the suggested ratios (1 kilo of nuts per 1 liter of vodka) is strongly recommended as this will ensure that your nut vodka has a beautiful fulvous shade without a strong taste.
Nut vodka can be stored away from direct sunlight for up to 3 years. It has ABV 35-37% (without sugar). You can re-use partitions, obtaining 2 liters of nut vodka per 1 kilo of unshelled nuts. This won’t affect the quality of the alcoholic drink in any way.
Pine Nut Vodka
Initially, this recipe was used to enhance the moonshine properties, but you can enhance vodka or diluted ethanol in the same way.
Ingredients:
- Vodka (moonshine) – 3 liters
- Pine nuts – 0.5 kilo
- Sugar (honey) – to taste
Wash the pine nuts and put them in a stock pot, topping them off with water and boiling for 5 minutes. After that, pour off the water and top off again. Now, boil for another 5 minutes. The boiling lets you remove the oil from the pine nuts, thus improving the pine vodka’s taste.
Throw the cooked pine nuts in a colander and put them in a jar. Add vodka and cap the jar. Infuse the mixture for 30 days in a dark place at room temperature. Strain the obtained homemade pine nut vodka through cheesecloth or a layer of cotton wool. Add sugar and honey to taste and stir. Now, your homemade pine nut vodka is ready and can be stored in a fridge or cellar for up to 3 years. It has 33-35% ABV.
